This year marks the 25th anniversary of Snoop Dogg's debut album, Doggystyle. The album served as a formal introduction to the then-up-and-coming rapper who was working alongside Dr. Dre. Prior to the album, he blew people away with his work on "Deep Cover" and The Chronic single, "Nuthin' But A G Thang." Snoop recently sat down with Questlove who shocked the Doggfather with some knowledge about the latter's sample origin.
Snoop Dogg didn't know that Dr. Dre sampled Questlove's parents -- Arthur Lee Andrew Thompson and Jacqui Andrews -- on "Nuthin' But A G Thang." In a recent interview with Snoop, Questlove revealed to him that Dre sampled 1973 song “Are You Looking" by Congress Alley -- the group Quest's parents were in.
"You know you sampled my parents, right?” Quest revealed while playing the original song. "That's my mom and my dad.”
"What?!" Snoop replied in shock.
Questlove went onto reveal how he and Black Thought were so stoked to hear the song when during their younger days in Philly.
“So when the shit would come on The Box in Philly and I heard that — Yo, me and Tariq lost it. Like, ‘Yo, that’s your mom and dad!'” he says. “It was like we won the lottery ticket!”
Snoop Dogg is set to appear on Questlove's Questlove Supreme tomorrow (December 19th) on Pandora. Peep the snippet of their conversation below.
