"Game of Thrones" returns this spring.

On Friday, HBO teased the arrival of the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, revealing that the season's trailer would arrive just ahead of Sunday's (January 13th) showing of True Detective.

The network held true to its promise and delivered on a proper look at what fans can look forward to in the season when it premieres on April 14th.  The new season is said to feature six episodes, each running as high as 90 minutes long. It was previously revealed that Season 8 would also host eight new characters.

As Game of Thrones comes to an end, though, HBO has already begun production on its prequel, reportedly titled The Long Night. The new series is set to take place thousands of years before the original. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast is set to feature the likes of Naomi Ackie, Jamie Campbell, Denise Gough, Alex Sharp, and Ivanno Jeremiah while, notably, Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse have also been cast.

It's sure to be an explosive final year for the global phenomenon. While it did not feature any new episodes in 2018, Game Of Thrones was still the most highly-pirated series of the year, going neck-and-neck The Walking Dead, which took the crown for the most-pirated show with new episodes in 2018.
