Kanye West hasn’t won a Grammy in over 5 years, since 2012 to be exact when he snagged three for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for “N****s In Paris,” and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “No Church In The Wild,” but that could be changing next year. According to TMZ, Def Jam have reportedly submitted Kanye for "Best Rock Song" and "Best Rock Performance" for his song "Freeee (Ghost Town, Pt. 2)" with Kid Cudi for a Grammy nomination. The song, which is off him & Cudi’s Kids See Ghosts album, does have a rock element to it with the heavy drums and guitar strings & vocals so it does kinda make sense to be under that category.
The submissions have reportedly already made it through the screening process and were sent out on the first round ballot to voters on Wednesday. If Ye can get enough support for the song in the first round, then he’ll be nominated and up for the awards.
In addition to those two, sources told TMZ that Def Jam is also trying to get Kanye up for “Producer Of The Year” award as well. If you remember he did produce about five albums in as many weeks back in June, two of which (Pusha T & Teyana Taylor) are also trying to get Grammy nods.
This year’s show is going February 19th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. We’ll keep you posted on nominations and what not when they’re revealed.
