A few weeks ago, 21 Savage released his new album I Am > I Was. The title of the project rings true especially now as he faces deportation from the United States. The Atlanta rapper is currently being detained in one of the worst detention centers in the country as he hopes for an imminent release. Until he was seven-years-old, Savage lived in the United Kingdom, moving here with his family and building a life in Atlanta. If he’s deported, he would be away from his children and all of the networks that he has worked so hard to build over the years. His mother has been supportive of him, speaking out after his arrest earlier this week. Now, she’s decided to throw things back to when he was just a young boy, sharing a photo of her son as a kid.
“Always here for you son,” wrote 21 Savage’s mother in her post. “From Day 1.” She shared a link to the petition that people have been signing to stop the deportation of 21 Savage, praying that her son is able to move back home. With 21 unable to access his own social media accounts, it’s nice that his mom is keeping his online presence felt.
21 Savage was arrested on Sunday after getting caught up in a police mission to catch his cousin Young Nudy. He experienced major success with his last album and it would be a huge shame for him to be forced to move back to the United Kingdom, where he only spent a few years of his life.
