After refusing to serve a Donald Trump supporter wearing a Make America Great Again hat, a restaurant manager has been terminated.
It was in Vancouver, Canada that manager Darin Hodge of the Stanley Park Teahouse refused to a man wearing the very recognizable MAGA hat. According to Global News, Hodge informed the potential patron that he would not be served until he removed the hat. Naturally, the Trump supporter refused.
While the restaurant’s owner, the Sequoia Company, say that Hodge is “a good person with a big heart and a right to his personal beliefs,” he was soon fired for failing to adhere to the company’s “philosophy of tolerance.”
“Sequoia does not support intolerance of any kind, and it is because of these principles that we cannot discriminate against someone based on their support for the current administration in the United States or any other bona fide political party,” reads Sequoia’s statement.
The red baseball cap, bearing the words “Make America Great Again” became and continues to be an integral part of Donald Trump’s campaign and subsequent presidential term in the United states with the phrase becoming the slogan that got him into the White House.
“I stand by my decision to ask the patron to remove his hat,” says Hodge. “The MAGA hat has come to symbolize racism, bigotry, Islamophobia, misogyny, white supremacy, homophobia. As a person with a strong moral backbone, I had to take a stand against this guest’s choice of headwear while in my former place of work.”
