2 Chainz sat down with LeBron James, who as you might know, played an A&R role on Rap Or Go To The League, for one-on-one interview segment they pitched to Apple Music - they've pegged it: "2 Chainz and LeBron James: Rap or Go to the League Interview" for short... but in reality it's far more engrossing than the title would suggest.
LeBron and 2 Chainz literally go par for par in unpacking each song on the album, listing their favorites, by which a fair amount of anecdotal information has come to light, including this: Kanye West was meant to record a verse on "Momma I Hit A Lick" next to Kendrick Lamar, but inevitably turned sour on the idea, after coming up short in the warmup sessions, LeBron explained.
"Originally, Pharrell did the beat, and he had a hook on it, and I ain't like the hook," 2 Chainz says in the interview. "And so Kendrick did another hook on it at first and I didn't really like the hook."
At which point, LeBron takes over the storytelling for a mere second before 2 Chainz interjected once again, invoking Kanye West to start the sentence. "(Kanye) didn't want to be on it, so I took him off, and then he wanted—I ain't going back and forth with that," 2 Chainz concluded.
Kanye's motion to omit himself from the proceedings is but one of many anecdotes 2 Chainz winds up sharing in the segment. LeBron offers a ton of commentary as well, but to a lesser extent, considering he was only present during the recruitment process and in the final stages.
