As we reported in late 2018, Childish Gambino sued his former label Glassnote Records in a dispute over royalties. Gambino recorded his first three albums with Glassnote, but ligation came into play once the multi-talented artist chose to hold out for unpaid streaming royalties. According to Complex, Glassnote insisted that they owned the copyrights to the music recorded while Gambino was signed to them. Subsequently, Glassnote believes they are entitled to 50 percent of the royalties generated from "non-interactive streaming services." McDJ Recordings, which is Gambino's imprint, struck back and stated that they had maintained ownership of the masters and only licensed them to Glassnote. Glover concluded that he was entitled to the majority of the royalties since he was both the recording artist and the owner of the music.
Glassnote sued for what they felt they were owed, and Gambino and McDJ accused Glassnote of breach of contract, good faith, fair dealing, fiduciary duty, and negligence. Now, Variety is reporting that 'Bino and Glassnote have settled the lawsuit. The media site reports that in a stipulation filed on Friday (March 1) in the Southern District of New York, both parties agreed to drop their lawsuits. Both parties agreed to pay their own attorneys’ fees, but the terms of the settlement were not revealed.
