Chloe X Halle's first dalliance on an original motion picture soundtrack came over a year ago when their song "Warrior" was included in the curation of A Wrinkle in Time by Ava DuVernay. Shortly thereafter, the duo put out The Kids Are Alright, garnering them an impressive 2 Grammy nominations including a nod in the "Best New Artist" category ultimately won by Dua Lipa.
More than a year later, the Sister act is back at it with yet another noteworthy on a Hollywood soundtrack, as the groove-based "Be Yourself" is included in the overall score for Little. The film project is produced by Will Packer and Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and is set to star Issa Rae, Regina Hall, and Marsai Martin as employees at a tech startup on the fritz. It just so happens that Chloe X Halle are good friends with Marsai Martin, who plays the "overworked intern" role in the motion picture.
"We are so proud of our friend Marsai and everything she stands for. This song is all about female empowerment and Black Girl Magic," the duo told Complex before premiering the song. "We wrote this song with another female duo, Nova Wav, and wanted it to reflect the power and strength of the women that this movie portrays."
Little opens in theaters this Friday (April 12th), much earlier than a September release date producers Packer and Barris had encircled during the quicker-than-expected production run. Hit us with your thoughts on "Be Yourself."
