In this day and age, promoters should be aware of the risks involved in booking Lauryn Hill for a show, her recent track record speaks for itself. The legendary Fugees member, currently in Europe celebrating the 20th-anniversary reissue of her Miseducation LP, found another way to rub her fans the wrong way, this time by making them wait two-and-a-half hours "in the cold," before commencing her show.
Lauryn Hill was booked to perform in Bercy, France, and although she did eventually turn up, her set only lasted a mere 30 minutes, according to those in attendance. Similar occurrences were reported the night before in Brussels, Belgium, when she again turned up late, angering concert-goers to no-end. Tardiness is something Lauryn Hill fans have begrudgingly learned to cope with, for the better part of a decade now. This ain't nothing new.
In 2016, she penned a short-form essay explaining her struggle to meet the demands of the life on the road. She stated, "Because I care so deeply about the artistic process, I scrutinize, have perfectionist tendencies, and want space made for spontaneity, which is not an easy process, with the many moving parts on the road."
This time around, Lauryn Hill cited "production issues" as a cause for her show's derailment and her lack of punctuality. Check out her apology to fans in Brussels and Bercy, France, down below.
Has Lauryn Hill crossed the line of decency, once and for all? You be the judge.
