The British soccer star helped the Galaxy win two championships.

Back in 2007, David Beckham shocked the soccer world when he decided to leave European soccer and come join the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer. At the time, the MLS was still trying to find its way amongst the other big professional sports leagues in North America and wasn't much of a draw. Even though Beckham wasn't the best player in the world at the time, he was still one of the biggest names and most recognizable faces. Beckham's pull alone put a huge spotlight on the MLS and was able to help grow the game of soccer in the United States.

While Beckham's tenure in Los Angeles was rocky at first due to injuries, the English star helped propel the team to two MLS Cup championships in 2011 and 2012. Because of his contributions to the team, the Galaxy will be honoring Beckham with a statue on March 2nd right outside of their arena, according to ESPN.

The report states that this is the first statue of its kind for an MLS player, but considering how groundbreaking Beckham was for the league, an honor of this magnitude only makes sense. Since Beckham, other international soccer stars like Thierry Henry, Didier Drogba, and Wayne Rooney have entered the league.
