With AMC's The Walking Dead in the middle of a return-to-form ninth season, the powers that be over at AMC have decided to ride the momentum. Deadline has officially confirmed that an untitled Walking Dead spinoff is currently in the works, as revealed during a quarterly earnings call with Wall Street. Unfortunately, the Network big-wigs have decided to keep their cards close to the chest, giving little other than a confirmation of its developmental stages.
"We’re not at a stage where we’ll be announcing its plans to premiere,” explains COO Ed Carroll. “But we have hired creative people that have pitched story outlines. We feel very good about the development of that series. We’re not in a position to talk about partnerships in terms of other territories or ancillary windows, other than that there’s a healthy appetite for it and we’ve had a number of conversations with a lot of players in the space.”
The upcoming series is hardly the first chapter of TWD's expanded universe. The network previously aired Fear The Walking Dead, which is currently awaiting its fifth season. The network will also launch a few upcoming Walking Dead films, which will pick up where Rick Grimes' storyline left off. Do you think the series still has gas left in the tank?
