Vogue Magazine recently released a photo shoot celebrating the 15th anniversary of its CFDA Fashion Fund, a competition which launched the careers of several American designers, rewarding them with prizes and a platform to share their designs. Among the models included in the shoot were Kendall Jenner, and Imaan Hammam. The high fashion shots see Jenner and Hammam in a number of varying looks. Kendall is quite noticeably wearing her hair in a teased, coarse state that many have likened to an Afro, and some have pointed out the fact that Jenner appears to have false freckles on her face, in addition to uncharacteristically plump lips.
Critics have questioned why Jenner, whose family has been accused of cultural appropriation in the past, had her hair styled in that manner, and why a model who possessed thick, coarse hair naturally was not selected to model the look instead. "Why didn’t you get someone with an actual afro and freckles to model for you instead? And you try this all the time," one commentator wrote. Another shared, "Both her Afro and lip injections are distracting, but only the former is in truly poor taste." Others took issue with the fact that Kendall was even included in the shoot at all claiming that there were more unique, and interesting faces that have yet to receive the recognition they deserve. "Stop making this broad famous. So many interesting faces out there!" another comment read.
