A month before the release of his new album Rap Or Go To The League, which arrived this morning, 2 Chainz announced that the project would be his Black excellence project -- similar to Jay-Z's 4:44 or Nipsey Hussle's Victory Lap. Throughout the month, he paid homage to African-American leaders who're doing groundbreaking things within their communities who aren't necessarily entertainers or athletes. Yesterday, to close out Black History Month, the rapper paid homage to Jay-Z.
"Hope you enjoyed these #BlackNowStory that I sent you," he wrote yesterday (Feb. 28). "Goin to end it with Jay Z the Brooklyn native who went from being in the streets, to be a successful artist, entrepreneur, record exec, philanthropist and more. A big inspiration for the culture. More wins and trophies to you bro. Sincerely Toni."
2 Chainz has always spoken highly of Jay-Z. In his Breakfast Club interview this morning, he revealed that he was trying to get a Jay-Z verse for Rap Or Go To The League but the timing wasn't right. "I’d love to work with him. I tried to get him on this album and he told me maybe the next album," he explained.
2 Chainz has been chasing a HOV feature a minute. He revealed in 2013 that he was trying to nab a feature from Jay-Z for B.O.A.T.S II: ME TIME but was advised against it by Kanye West who emphasized the "me time."
