Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade had trouble conceiving a child for years. Union went through an unthinkable eight miscarriages and wasn't able to get pregnant through IVF treatments. According to the Independent, the actress was diagnosed with adenomyosis last year which ultimately contributed to her struggles to get pregnant. In November of 2018 though, the couple welcomed their first child, Kaavia James, to the world through a surrogate.

Union spoke to Women's Health about using a surrogate and how for a while she felt as though people would judge her for going that route.

“There’s nothing more that I wanted than to cook my own baby,” Union explained. “The idea of [using a surrogate] felt like surrendering to failure.”

She even talked about what people expect from you when you're having a child which ultimately made her feel a little bit of pressure.

“People want to see the bump, hear that you got hemorrhoids—they want to know you’re like them. I was like, ‘This is going to seem like the most Hollywood sh*t ever. Will I be embraced as a mom?’ It’s terrifying," Union added.

In addition to their latest child, Union is the step-mother to three of Dwyane Wade's children that he had in a previous relationship.
