Former UFC fighter Matt Hughes suffered a serious brain injury when a train crashed into his car back in June of 2017. Recently though, Hughes has been accused of allegedly attacking his wife and nephew on multiple occasions. According to TMZ, these attacks have resulted in both the wife and nephew getting restraining orders against Hughes who has allegedly become very violent since the accident. The fighter responded to the allegations with a statement on his Instagram yesterday. He says that he is innocent and that the last year and a half has been hell for him. He also says that his wife and nephew are only doing this to push him out of their lives.
"Since my train accident in June of 2017, my life has been changed forever. Some days have been absolute hell. The challenges and battles that I have faced have been far greater than anything I ever took on in a cage. I am not the same person since my accident, even though, everyday I continue to try to be as normal as someone with a brain injury can be.
āI understand that it is not fun to teach a grown man to learn to do everything all over again. I understand that I am a burden to those around me. I understand that I am an inconvenience to my family. Unfortunately, my marriage was not perfect long before the accident but NEVER, NEVER, NEVER would I, or have I, physically hurt those who I care about most.ā
Hughes finished his career with a record of 45-9 and won the UFC welterweight title on two separate occasions.
Stay tuned for any updates on this situation as they develop.
