Q-Tip and Kanye West have always hinted at doing some big things together, but it's never quite worked out. The GOOD Friday highlight "Chain Heavy" was a good example of the work they could do together, and while MBDTF was initially planned to take a sonically similar route, in which Q-Tip would have likely shown up more ("Mama's Boyfriend" anyone?)-- 'Ye ended up pulling a U-turn, and crafting a totally maximalist effort instead.
Last month, Yeezy showed up on a Q beat (though he didn't actually drop a verse), and brought A Tribe Called Quest out for a couple of tour dates, and now it seems like the two will be working pretty closely on 'Ye's next project, at least according to Tip.
"I'm producing Kanye's new album with Rick Rubin," said Q in an interview with Elliott Wilson, but refrained from leaking any more details (where the follow-up questions at?). It's unclear whether he meant the two would be taking on the role of executive producers, or will actually be supplying the instrumentals.
Watch Q-Tip's full interview on "The Truth" below, where he also speaks on the 20th anniversary of Midnight Marauders, his long delayed album, The Last Zulu and more. The comment about 'Ye's album comes at the 8 minute mark.
