The US lottery continues to swell.

After millions tried and failed their hand at winning the ultimate jackpot, the Mega Millions and Powerball prizes have grown to monstrous proportions, offering up a combined jackpot of $2.22 billion to date.

The numbers drawn Saturday were 62-16-54-57-69 while the Powerball was 23. Nobody won on those figures and the Powerball jackpot has since climbed to $620 million in which the winner can opt for a cash prize of over $354 million where the federal government takes an immediate 25 percent off the top when the numbers are drawn on Wednesday.

But before then, players can try for an even bigger reward with the Mega Millions on Tuesday, now boasting a tally of $1.6 billion, bringing both lotteries to the aforementioned combined total of $2.22 billion. Mega Millions now marks the largest lottery prize in the history of the United States.

The Mega Millions jackpot hasn't been hit since July 24th when 11 workers in California split a prize of $543 million. The last time anyone won the Powerball was on August 11th in New York for $245 million.

"It's hard to overstate how exciting this is -- but now it's really getting fun," Gordon Medenica, lead director of the Mega Millions Group and director of Maryland Lottery and Gaming, tells CNN.

If you've got a lotto itch, Mega Millions and Powerball tickets are currently $2 each and can be purhcased in 44 states, Washington D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
