Timbaland is known to be protective over collaborations with Aaliyah. When rumors started swirling about a posthumous Aaliyah album, to which Drake was attached, Timbo questioned its authenticity, and whether or not it would work. The rumored album seems to have gone into non-existence though, following one leak which featured Drizzy, "Enough Said."
Nonetheless, people are continuing to collaborate with Aaliyah posthumously, most recently, Chris Brown used her vocals on his track "Don't Think They Know." While the song was generally well-received, in a recent interview with Revolt TV, Timbo was adamant that working with Aaliyah posthumously won't work-- unless it's with him, her "soul mate," he said. In the process he sort of put down Chris' collabo, as well as Drake's.
"In music, people always say I'ma do a song with Aaliyah. It will never work. Chris Brown got a record-- it won't work. Drake can go do a record-- it won't work. 'Cause Aaliyah music only work with its soul mate, which is me," the producer said in the original interview.
Now Timbaland has taken to Twitter to apologize for his shot at Breezy, although he makes no mention of Drake. Timbaland wrote on Twitter that he actually did enjoy Chris' r'n'b collaboration.
"I want 2 publicly apologize 2 my lil homie @chrisbrown 4 my statements on revolt regarding the Aaliyah collaborations. i actually like the song wit him n Aaliyah, its just when you are talking about babygirl its a very sensitive subject with me. so the people who not only worked with her but grew a bond so tight we are like family so im very over protective over her. I have mad luv 4 my dude @chrisbrown. A mother lost a daughter. a brother lost a sister. that is still grieving over her passing. it just a very sensitive subject. I just want the family to be respected," Timbo tweeted.
