We've certainly heard our share of responses and reactions to Kendrick Lamar's "Control" verse at this point, but it's largely been from artists who weren't actually mentioned in the bars. A$AP Rocky was among the rappers called upon by name, and in an interview with Funk Flex, he broke his silence on the verse.
As a New Yorker, A$AP was quick to dismiss Kendrick's claim of being the "king" of his city. "That King of New York shit... you smoking crack, you crazy." he said.
Outside of that line, Rocky was all for K.Dot's verse, explaining that he felt a lot of the animosity towards Kendrick stemmed from rappers being insecure about not being mentioned, rather than what was actually said.
"Honestly, K. Dot and them niggas, that’s fam. I think hip-hop needs this shit,” he said. “It’s niggas pissed off just because they wasn’t mentioned. I’m not justifying shit, rap is rap. The nigga didn’t say nothing about nobody mother, he ain't want problems. He said these is my niggas and I’m lettin’ ya’ll know it’s competition. What’s the problem? That man know I’m where he at."
