The Sadboy pioneer touches in with his loyal following.

I'd say it's been a minute since we've heard from the prolific Yung Lean, but that's not entirely true. The whimsical, fantasy-fuelled Swedish rapper dropped off his Poison Ivy mixtape in November, to mixed reviews. In truth, it's possible that Stranger simply set the bar too high, and the more melodic, vibey Poison Ivy felt lost in the shuffle. Yet with songs like "Happy Feet," "Sauron," and "Silicon Wings," Lean proved he's among the most adventurous young hip-hop songwriters working today.

Now, with a new full-length surely in the pipeline, Leandoer has dropped off an aperitif of sorts with Total Eclipse. The two-track EP seems to pick up where his last drop left off, with "Two Cups" finding him hopping back into the cloud-rap realm with an unfocused yet ultimately harmless melody. Next comes "Smirnoff Ice," which aside from evoking a bittersweet sense of young drinker's nostalgia, serves as a reminder of Lean's adventurous spirit. While the songs aren't as polished as "Red Bottom Sky" or the aforementioned Poison Ivy cuts, Total Eclipse is a welcome treat nevertheless.
