Actor Tom Hardy arrives at the Winter TCA Tour FX Starwalk at Langham Hotel on January 12, 2017 in Pasadena, California.
Hardy is the face of the franchise.

Tom Hardy is set to touch down as Venom in the movie of the same title in just over a month. The Venom film, which does not exist inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe along with Tom Holland's Spider-Man, will paint the villain as an anti-hero. In the comics, Venom does play a hero when he moves to the West Coast to get away from Spider-Man. The film will focus on that storyline, minus Spidey. Hardy's Venom will take place on the west coast as well, and the gruff actor will play journalist Eddie Brock who stumbles upon a scandal. The Life Foundation is harboring alien symbiotes, and Brock plans to expose them until he bonds with one himself.

In an interview with Total Film Magazine (Via ScreenRant), Hardy revealed that he is signed on for three films. Trilogies are the norm for successful films, so of course, Venom's future depends on the box office. "I'm open to whatever you want to do with it. We've signed up for three of them," stated Hardy. "So it's very much an open case. We'll see what people's responses are to it. I think it's an awesome character. I love playing both of them. It's an amuse-bouche, and for Sony, it's the Venom-verse launched in isolation, as it were. We all prepped for it to be a standalone universe. So whatever Sony want to attach to it at a later date, it's a fulcrum piece. But let's see what happens when it lands."
