It's been awhile since Nicolas Cage was one of the top stars in Hollywood. In the 90's into the early 00's Cage was an A-list action film superstar, but he fell off in the last decade. It seemed as if he was all but forgotten in the age of modern day superheroes and CGI propelled blockbusters, but a new trailer for Mandy just hit the internet and it looks like Cage is back.
Mandy premiered at Sundance earlier this year and received rave reviews. The sci-fi/horror film which is directed by Panos Cosmatos (Beyond the Black Rainbow) focuses on a woman named Mandy (Andrea Riseborough) who is kidnapped by the leader of a violent cult of demonic looking cronies. In the new trailer, Cosmatos' penchant for surrealism creates a splash of color and emotion wrapped up in one of the most chilling previews I've ever watched. Cult leader Jeremiah Sand (Linus Roache) wishes to use Mandy's soul for an evil and maniacal reason, and Red Miller (Nicolas Cage) constructs some type of insane battle ax to take him on. There appears to be anime scenes integrated into the film, and the entire trailer feels like it was shot in another universe. Mandy hits theaters on September 14th.
