It's been a tragic week for the Chargers defensive tackle.

Brandon Mebane, a defensive tackle for the Los Angeles Chargers announced on Wednesday that his 7-week-old daughter Makenna died on Thursday, January 3rd after battling a defective heart condition, according to ESPN.

"I'm still thankful, and I thank God every day," Mebane said. "I still pray. We're taking it one day at a time."

Mebane's daughter was born on November 12th but she didn't have a heart valve, which needed surgery. "She just kept having bleeding from her stomach, and then they tried to feed her, it wasn't good for her liver," Mebane explained.

The defensive tackle had missed four games this season so he could be with his daughter who was receiving treatment. According to ESPN, Mebane said his wife and kids are currently in Los Angeles and that he plans to play in the team's AFC divisional matchup against the New England Patriots.

Mebane is currently in his third season with the Chargers where he is one of the captain's on defense. In the report by ESPN, they note Mebane has 40 tackles, a forced fumble, and a sack this season.
