"They tried to get rid of me, but from ocean to ocean, they gonna have to deal with me," begins Pitbull's new cover of the iconic (and most overplayed of all time) "Africa" by Toto. Whatever you may think of the original song, it's here, it's not going away and Pitbull's version actually does some sort of justice to the original which already isn't exactly the pinnacle of good taste. Not only has he turned it into pure 2018-pop candy, he has beat the internet at its own game. As Buzzfeed put it's "a meme covering a meme:"

As a YouTube commenter put it, "I didn't know a track could SMELL like 2008." The song was made for official soundtrack of the forthcoming Aquaman movie starring Jason Momoa. Maybe the biggest thing this shows us the difference between DC and Marvel. The Black Panther soundtrack was a whole Kendrick Lamar album, while Aquaman's has Pitbull covering Toto's "Africa."

This is not uncharted territory. Earlier this year Weezer covered the song after a 14-year-old kid from Cleveland started a Twitter account called @weezerafrica in an effort to get the band to do a version:"@RiversCuomo it's about time you bless the rains down in Africa." They did, and they got Weird Al for the music video. Who will do the next "Africa" cover?
