Lakeith Stanfield has had a fantastic year. Having starred in Atlanta, Sorry To Bother You, The Girl in the Spider's Web and more, not including his array of credits in films from 2017, the 27-year-old actor has labeled himself a top act and he's ready to take on more. Lakeith caught up with Deadline to talk about his career so far and explained how he wants to play the black joker.
“I want people to dress up as me as black Joker, when that inevitably happens,” he said. “I just think there are so many things that haven’t been touched yet in terms of how the performance can be delivered.” He even explained how he wants to apart of a "really bad movie, that’s just horrible," the type of film that has boom mics in the shot. “Bad transitions, weird stuff going on. Just like an unfolding mess of balls being dropped everywhere. I’d love to be in one of those," he added.
Maybe this conversation is a big hint to an upcoming project Lakeith will produce, direct and star in that sees him playing the character he's always wanted. “The sci-fi world meets black people—I think that’s a beautiful juxtaposition. To be fully realized, interesting characters, not always having to be, ‘Hey man! I just come home from choich!’” he added. “Now, we can play a little bit, too.”
