Netflix has recently announced that the hit comedy series Big Mouth has been renewed for a third season.
The revered show draws inspiration from the experiences of the show's creators and real-life best friends Andrew Goldberg and Nick Kroll. Accomplished comedians and actors Maya Rudolph, Jason Mantzoukas, Jordan Peele, Fred Armisen, Jenny Slate, Jessi Klein, and John Mulaney join Kroll in voicing some of the show's characters. Kroll also works alongside Goldberg and screenwriter-directors Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin in producing the series.
Tackling the oddly fascinating and equally dreadful trials of puberty through humor, the show has gained quite the following, even capturing the heart of Atlanta rapper Lil Yachty. Only recently, Yachty tweeted "Who wants to see me on season 3 of big mouth?" after posting a picture of an animated version of himself beside one of the show's characters.
News of the renewal comes shortly after the show's second season aired early last month. While at a panel discussion about the show, producer Mark Levin revealed that many of the laughter-inducing storylines stem directly from the anecdotes of the creative team behind it. “Whenever we interviewed a writer for the show we’d always say, ‘Tell us about what it was like when you had your first period, or what it was like when you were caught masturbating. That was the litmus test because they had to be able to freely open up. We made the room a really safe place where everyone could talk about that.”
