President Trump took to twitter this morning to thank a couple of prominent sports figures including Tiger Woods and NFL Hall of Famer Jim Brown, who has spoken out against players protesting on the field. During an appearance on the "JT The Brick" show last week, Brown explained how he finds himself "really pulling for the president."
“I should be criticizing Trump on every level because he does certain things that call for criticism, but when I look at television I see all these announcers become experts and they’re pointing the fingers and they’re not doing a doggone thing but pointing their fingers, I find myself really pulling for the president,” Brown said. “Now, that would make me very unpopular in the black community, very unpopular with a lot of Americans … but I think that there are certain good things that are coming out of this presidency because we’ve never seen anything like it.”
As a result of Brown's pro-Trump comments, the President praised him today on twitter.
"Thank you to the great [Jim Brown] perhaps the greatest running back of all time, for your wonderful words and support. Since our meeting in New York, African-American UNEMPLOYMENT has reached the LOWEST LEVEL IN HISTORY. You get it!"
Trump also offered support for Tiger Woods, who he labeled "very smart," in regards to Woods' recent comments about their relationship. "Well, I've known Donald for a number of years,'' Woods said during a post-round interview at Ridgewood Country Club, according to ESPN. "We've played golf together. We've had dinner together. I've known him pre-presidency and obviously during his presidency.''
When asked about some people being threatened by Trump "and his policy,'' as well as his friendly relationship with the president, Woods said, "Well, he's the president of the United States. You have to respect the office. No matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office.''
