A few days ago, we reported that this year's YouTube rewind was the second-most disliked video on YouTube. Today, it passed Justin Bieber's "Baby" to become the #1 most disliked video ever.
The irony of this won't be lost on anyone. The corporate folks over at YouTube did their darndest to see what the kids were up to and to put it all into a video that would sum up the year 2018. If you've seen the video, you will know exactly how that turned out. YouTube responded to all the hate with a defensive statement that changed the focus of the criticism:
Every year when we release our Rewind video, our number one goal is getting the community to engage with it. This includes liking and disliking the video. With millions of comments, millions of likes and dislikes, and more than 100M views, we’re pleased with the results.
The sound of someone who's embarrassed and knows they're wrong. The current dislike count is sitting at 10 million, which is more than five times the views that the original Rewind has received in the eight years since its release, in 2010. If you haven't seen it yet, or if you're willing to drag yourself through for another time, watch Rewind 2018 below:
