Ben Affleck was initially slated to direct the forthcoming Batman film, which will see the superhero battle the forces of evil without the Justice League. Since assuming the role as The Caped Crusader, Affleck has not had a chance for beloved character to shine all on his own.
However, the Oscar-winning actor/director/screenwriter has effectively stepped down from helming this latest DC Comics film, as War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves has now assumed the role as writer and director.
Affleck has not confirmed whether or not he will be returning to his post as Batman, but new information does reveal who Gotham's Finest will go head-to-head with in the next instalment of the successful franchise.
Justin Kroll, a journalist working for Variety, took to Twitter recently to announce that Batman will be squaring off against none other than The Penguin.
Kroll also reveals how Warner Bros. is developing a Birds of Prey film as well, which will see Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn cast as the lead protagonist. The project may also contain a treasure's trove of female DC characters including Black Canary, Poison Ivy, Hawkgirl, Batgirl and more
Speaking about his potential vision for the film, Reeves plans to "do an almost noir-driven, detective version of Batman that is point-of-view driven in a very, very powerful way, that hopefully is going to connect you to what’s going on inside of his head and inside of his heart."
