Remember when, at the Oscars and Golden Globes, celebrities wore all black and sported pins that said “Time’s Up?” Well, the movement is back, on behalf of “over 300 women who work in film television and theatre,” with a new animated PSA that illustrates some sarcastic guidelines about how to behave at work.
The video takes the form of an FAQ, with Donald Glover outlining what is considered appropriate and what is not. However, the video is not just a dry how-to. Glover’s monotone underscores just how obvious much of the guidelines are, like thinking your coworkers pants are sexy, but maybe not telling your coworker that they look sexy in their pants.
The video itself is a joke, ending with a fake link to "www.dontpullyourdickoutatwork.obviously," but Time’s Up is not playing games. Their Website (which is linked at the end of the video, after the joke one) outlines some of their mission, which aims to unite women regardless of class in the name of “safe, fair and dignified work for women of all kinds. We want women from the factory floor to the floor of the Stock Exchange to feel linked as sisters as we shift the paradigm of workplace culture.”
The site also provides concrete guidelines in the "Know Your Rights" section, with guides on what it is, how to spot it and what to do about it if you do. But Time’s Up doesn’t just stop at guidelines, they’ve also founded a “Legal Defense Fund” in partnership with the National Women’s Law Center that gives “access to prompt and comprehensive legal and communications help” for anyone affected by harassment or assault in the workplace.
Turns out, they're much more than just pins.
