Kevin Hart didn't end the year with a bang, instead, he became the center of controversy. He was chosen as the host for the Oscars, but online researchers were quick to steal his moment by reposting old tweets by Hart. In the tweets, Hart used homophobic and transphobic terms in jokes and jabs at his peers. At first, Hart didn't apologize and instead decided to step down from hosting the award show. He then apologized for his actions and gained the support of Ellen Degeneres. According to Entertainment Weekly, Hart apologized again on Monday during his SiriusXM radio show Straight to the Hart.
“I will say this, and I want to make this very clear,” Hart stated. “Once again, Kevin Hart apologizes for his remarks that hurt members of the LGBTQ community. I apologize.” He then went on to explain the jokes in question. “Here is how it starts off,” he began, describing the script of the joke. “‘I want to say that I have no problem with gay people. I don’t have a homophobic bone in my body. I want you to be happy, be gay, be happy.’ And then I say as a heterosexual male, 'if I can do something to stop my son'… that’s where the joke starts!” He still admitted his wrongdoing after breaking down his side of the story. “These weren’t words that I said to gay individuals," Hart said. "I didn’t say these words to people, at the time, this was our dumb asses on Twitter going back and forth with each other. We thought it was okay to talk like that, because that’s how we talked to one another. In that, you go, fuck! This is wrong now.”
