If Eli Manning's enshrinement in the Hall of Fame were voted on Today and the decision fell on Jerry Rice's shoulders, the Giants' Super Bowl-winning quarterback would be on the outside looking in. The Hall of Fame wide receiver is not generally counted on for his opinion, but when does take a moment to show his colors, football fans generally stop and listen.
In a radio interview which aired on 95.7 The Game earlier this week, Rice was asked to cast a hypothetical vote, a vote he'll never be asked to submit, seeing as though the nomination committee is made up of journalists and not players - for the sake of "player objectivity."
"When I’m judging a player, I’m looking what he brings to the table," Jerry began in his assessment. "And, what I see with Eli Manning, there’s no consistency.” Rice then pulled Drew Brees into the discussion, as a favorable comparison. "I would think that Drew Brees is going to be a shoo-in," he said. "Eli? There’s a chance of him getting in, but I’m not going to say he’s a true Hall of Famer."
Rice stumbled for a second, possibly in a moment of reexamination, then muttered his final verdict before on to other matters: "I don’t see Eli as a Hall of Famer. Drew Brees, I do."
