Abrams loves to recruit his friends.

JJ Abrams is set to direct the last film in the Skywalker saga, or at least, that's what Disney is billing it as. Star Wars: Episode IX places Abrams back in the director's seat after he helmed The Force Awakens. In that film, Abrams brought along Simon Pegg, and it's been reported that Keri Russell will also be joining the cast. Both Pegg and Russell have worked with Abrams in the past (Pegg is in both Star Trek and The Force Awakens, two soft-reboots helmed by Abrams). Now, Abrams is bringing another Lost alumni along for the Star Wars ride.

As reported by Deadline, Dominic Monaghan is joining the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX in an undisclosed role. Monaghan is already familiar with the set of mega-movie franchises, as he starred in The Lord of the  trilogyHe also played Charlie Pace in Lost, which is how he met Abrams. “The galaxy far far away has had almost as much influence as the one I live in, so I am delighted to be involved,” Monaghan stated. Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters next year, but expect Disney and Lucasfilm to begin promotion for the film as soon as the holiday season kicks off.
