Anderson .Paak stopped by Power 106 in Los Angeles to shoot the shit on The Cruz Show. Paak opened up about the creative process and budget that went into his new video "Bubblin'." He also gave listeners an inside peek at what makes Dr. Dre such an elusive character. According to Paak, his producer Dr. Dre works entirely on his own schedule, and get this: he's sitting on "hundreds of thousands of songs." Over the span of their mentorship, Paak has tried to finagle a beat or two of his choosing from Dre's extensive catalog. Like any hoarder, the legendary producer has been reticent and sometimes unwilling to part with his artful possessions.
Anderson .Paak recounted an instance where Dr. Dre woke him at 1 A.M. to hear a beat he'd constructed. "I thought I was gonna go home, get some rest and he's like 'Can you pull up bro? I want you to hear something,'" .Paak said rather sleepily. "It was like 1 in the morning. I went over there he was working on some stuff, a room full of people. He was like 'You feelin it?' I was like 'It's cool.' He was like 'Nah, I'mma find something else.'" Supposedly Dr. Dre was looking to a get rise out of his go-to protege. When he didn't get the reaction he was looking for, Dre read between the lines and decided to backlog the beat for future use. Dre isn't about to waste his time on a halfhearted collaboration.
