The first of many appearances for Spacey.

Kevin Spacey has finally had his day in court. Today he had his arraignment in a Nantucket court where he faces charges of sexual assault with a possibility of spending five years in prison if he's found guilty. Unsurprisingly, Spacey announced a few days ago that he would be pleading not guilty to the charges. At the same time, his lawyers requested that he be able to skip the first day in court to avoid heightening "the negative publicity already generated in connection with the case." This request was denied.

Although he said that he would be pleading guilty, the judged didn't require Spacey to enter a plea today, according to TMZwho also shared a video of the proceedings:

The court appearance comes after perhaps the strangest response that any celebrity has had to the recent wave of assault allegations. Most people, like Harvey Weinstein, just dropped off the grid. Others, like Louis C.K., apologized and tried to keep doing what they were doing before. Kevin Spacey, on the other hand, seems to be trying to make some kind of sick, multi-layered joke about the whole thing.

It first started when he posted a video (below) on Christmas eve, where stirs the literal and figurative pots, saying, in character as Frank Underwood from House of Cards, that the public "want me back." He then delivered a pizza to the paparazzi, wearing a hat that read "retired since 2017," the year that the allegations against him were made public.
