LeBron James continues to stack his stats. The Los Angeles Lakers faced the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night (November 14), and James had a record-setting night. He passed Laker legend Wilt Chamberlain for fifth place on the NBA's all-time scoring list, and now sits right behind Michael Jordan. Jordan is fourth with 32,292 points. If James continues scoring an average of 26.4 points per game, and doesn't miss any games, he should pass Jordan in January.
The Lakers ended up winning the game 126-117, pushing their record to 8-6. The team is expected to make the playoffs this year, even after a rough start. "Well, it's part of what makes working for the Lakers so amazing," stated Lakers coach Luke Walton when he was asked about James passing Chamberlain. "You have this history here. For him to be up there speaks more to what he's done over his entire career, obviously, as a player. The fact that he's in a Laker jersey as he does anything more just adds to the legacy of what the Lakers are."
The top three scorers in NBA history all played for the Lakers at one point or another. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387 points) is first, Karl Malone (36,928 points) is second and Kobe Bryant (33,643 points) is third.
