Although Halo was the first person shooter than changed my life as a child, nearly a decade earlier Doom shattered all expectations of FPS'. When Doom dropped in 1993, it flipped the video game world on its head. The 3D graphics, FPS interface, and multi-player gameplay influenced games for decades. In fact, many aspects of Doom are still used in games today. id Software created the series, which has just turned 25. The game's co-creator John Romero is celebrating the anniversary by releasing a batch of new levels for fans.

Entitled SIGIL, the new levels are a sequel to where the last update left off. "SIGIL is a free megawad for the original 1993 DOOM® created by John Romero," reads the website for the new update. "It contains nine single-player and nine deathmatch levels. The free megawad will be released in mid- February 2019 and requires players own the original 1993 registered version of DOOM® in order to play. SIGIL™ is the spiritual successor to the fourth episode of DOOM®, and picks up where the original left off."
"One of the only reasons Doom is still popular is because we released the source code so others could make it work on more modern computers," Romero told The Guardian. Get ready to take your nostalgia to the next level in February.
