Dinklage gets emotional about the last day of filming.

Peter Dinklage has spent the last seven years playing Tyrion Lannister on the hit HBO series Game of Thrones. Although it has been interesting to watch the intelligent "imp" sidestep bloody mayhem using his wits for seven seasons, that is all about to come to an end. Game of Thrones will air its final season next year, bringing to a close one of the most influential shows of this generation. After securing the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Game of Thrones, Dinklage spoke with IndieWire about the final day of filming.

“It was very sad,” Dinklage told the publication while backstage at the Emmys. “This is not only a great TV show to be a part of, but it was an enormous family to be a part of. I was far from home. I live in New York and we shot the show in Europe, so many times I had to stay there and couldn’t go home on the weekends and really developed deep roots in the community of Ireland and some of the other countries we shot in.”

He continued by stating that it was, “definitely hard to say goodbye to because it wasn’t just saying goodbye to the show, [it] was saying goodbye to a life over there.”
