Just a couple of days ago it was reported that Enes Kanter would skip the New York Knicks' trip to London due to fears that he may be assassinated as he believes he is an "enemy of the state" to Turkey. Kanter has been a big denouncer of Turkish president Tayyip Erdoğan and he believes his political leanings would make him a target of Erdoğan's supporters.
Former NBA player Hedo Turkoglu who is the president of the Turkish Basketball Federation is now firing back at Kanter, according to TMZ. The former player released a statement saying Kanter's fears of assassination are dangerous and downright "delusional."
"I received with concern the news about the delusions targeting the Republic of Turkey of Enes Kanter, who pledged his loyalty to the ringleader of Fetullashist Terrorist Organization (FETO), and his statement that he would miss the game in London due to fears of being assassinated by Turkey," Turkoglu wrote. "We know that he has not been able to travel to many countries due to visa issues since 2017. In other words, Kanter cannot enter the U.K. not because of fears for life as he claims but due to passport and visa issues. This being the long known truth, he is trying to get the limelight with irrational justifications and political remarks."
Turkoglu also went on to say "It is obvious that this person's remarks are irrational and distort the truth."
As of right now, Kanter has not replied to Turkoglu's statement.
