Back in the spring, ex-NFL champ Phil Simms revealed that current 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan named his son after Lil Wayne. Yes you heard me right, the Minnesota-native named his son "Carter" in reference to Weezy's famous surname. After finding out about the tribute, Weezy sent Shanahan and his son, no longer an infant, a host of Weezy-inspired merchandise, including signed posters and compact discs.
Weezy must have been overjoyed at the thought of a known sports figure turning to him for inspiration, considering his passion for pro sports. Weezy has on several occasions lent his insight to ESPN panels, and rarely looked out of place beside seasoned pros.
Kyle Shanahan isn't the only 49er in his camp to make nice with a well known celebrity. Young quarterback was recently spotted dining with porn actress Kiara Mia, an entreaty met with open arms by all accounts. San Francisco's 2017 season ended the way many supporters hope their 2018 year will begin.
In 2017, Shanahan and his troops started the season sloppily, losing 23-3 to Carolina, a team that succumbed to the division rival Saints in the Wild Card playoff. Suffice to say, the 49ers are entering 2018 with plenty to gleam about, no different to Lil Wayne, who saw his fortunes reversed when Birdman freed him from his Cash Money contract last month. There is plenty of optimism to go around.
