The 2018 World Cup is currently taking place in Russia, and the entire globe is tuned in to cheer for their country, or country of their choice. The celebrations surrounding the world cup are enormous, and the hype surrounding the worldwide tournament rivals the Olympics. During the celebrations, extensive amounts of World Cup trophy replicas are made as a promotion. According to the Associated Press, a criminal organization was busted for trafficking marijuana and cocaine in World Cup trophy replicas.
The gang, called the Narcos de la Copa, were caught with 20 kilos of marijuana, 10 kilos of cocaine, 1,800 doses of crack-cocaine, and 400,000 Argentine pesos ($14,819). Four men and two women were also arrested in the raid. “These merchants of death have endless ingenuity, but don’t be fooled. They shouldn’t be admired. On the contrary... they are now in jail,” Minister Cristian Ritondo said in a statement.
Argentina lost to Germany in the finals in the last World Cup tournament, but they must defeat Nigeria on Tuesday if they hope to progress past the group stage. Argentina was already destroyed by Croatia 3-0, and Nigeria was beaten by them as well 2-0. Nigeria won one game, against Iceland, while Argentina tied with them. Tuesday's match will decide Argentina's fate.
