Last November, Milwaukee Bucks All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nike announced a long-term partnership that includes his own signature shoe which will reportedly be ready for release during the 2018-19 NBA season.
With the start of a new NBA season quickly approaching, it remains to be seen exactly what the Nike Greek Freak 1 will look like, but a recent sample image should give fans a good idea of what to expect. As seen in the IG post embedded below, Giannis' first signature sneaker features his logo on the tongue as well as an oversized reverse Nike swoosh that runs along the midsole.
Antetokounmpo was one of the biggest sneaker free agents last year and had a number of lucrative offers including those from Adidas and Chinese sportswear brand, Li-Ning. However, he opted to remain with Nike after they guaranteed him his own signature sneaker, making him just the 22nd player to ever receive his own shoe with the iconic brand.
Last season, Giannis averaged career-highs in both points and rebounds with 26.9 and 10, respectively, in addition to 4.8 assists per game. The 23-year old All-Star, who has also been named NBA 2K19 cover athlete, is among the favorites to win the 2018-19 MVP Award with odds of 9/2, just behind Anthony Davis (4/1) and LeBron James (10/3).
