According to the New York Post, the Daily Dot, a digital publication that specializes in opinion pieces, is suing the NYPD for refusing to disclose information. The info they were seeking was withheld for privacy and safety concerns, but the website is calling rubbish on those claims. The Daily Dot was seeking information on Donald Trump's handgun licenses for a piece highlight the President's personal experiences with firearms.
The lawsuit claims: "The Daily Dot and the public have a right to access public records evidencing the Trumps’ ability and need to carry handguns in one of the strictest arms licensing states in the country."
The President has stated on record that he owns a .45-caliber Heckler & Koch sidearm, and a .38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver which he carries around at all times, even when the White House's security unit is guarding his perimeter. The Daily Dot believes the public deserves more transparency from the person with the loudest voice in the National Gun Debate. NYPD reps and White House officials have yet to comment on the legal action taken by the Daily Dot. For what it's worth, The Daily Dot is a publication with a general disdain for the Trump administration. In the past, they've published guides on how to challenge Trump's policy agenda, as well as general critiques on topics ranging from Gun Control to Immigration.
