If you watched the premiere installment of Surviving R. Kelly you heard the incredulous story of R. Kelly upending the law to produce a fraudulent marriage certificate for a then-underage Aaliyah. Kelly's former tour manager admitted he was complicit in the forgery. Demetrius Smith said, "I was so disappointed in him, 'cause I really believed him when he said that, you know, he wasn't messing with Aaliyah," before lamenting his own involvement when things came to a head between Kellz and Aaliyah.

"Aaliyah looked worried. Scared. Worried and scared. I wanted so much to grab Aaliyah and talk to her. I wanted so much to talk to her. 'Cause she looked at me, she gave me a look like she wanted me to talk to her. That's why I feel like I failed them. Both of them. I knew that it had changed the course of everything," Smith shamefully admitted later on in the Q&A segment.

Since going to air, The Blast was able to procure the actual forged document, dated "August 30th, 1994," exactly 7 years before her untimely death in a plane crash. The marriage certificate unearthed by The Blast corroborates much of what's been stated in regards to R. Kelly's indecent proposal. The forgery alludes to Aaliyah being 18 years of age when she said "I Do," three years off the mark. Her parents later annulled the marriage through power of attorney.
