Statistics show that there are more Americans than average moving to Canada.

Federal immigration statistics show that more Americans than normal have moved to Canada since Donald Trump was elected into presidency. The average number of Americans granted permanent residency in Canada is precisely 1,055 more than it was during Obama's administration. Adding to the evidence, student visas for U.S. students increased by an average of 1.012 in 2017, compared to the past 8 years.

Threats to move to Canada often occur during unfavorable political climates in America, and this presidency has made Canada look like the light at the end of the tunnel. Previously, an upwards trend of U.S. residents moving to Canada began in 2003 after the invasion of Iraq, and continued until Barack Obama was elected in 2008.

Even so, there are other theories as to the higher-than-normal stats. An alternative reason as to why there's an uptick of Americans in Canada is the fact that fluency in English is deemed more valuable than it was. Toronto-based immigration lawyer, Guidy Mamann, said via Global News, “the way we allocate points favours certain nationalities more than others, if you’re from the United States, you’re going to be a bit higher in the pool because you speak English.”

In addition, the trade war between Canada and the U.S. happening currently has motivated frustrated Americans to tour famous Canadian cities purchasing products made within the country.

Whichever reason people choose to represent, Americans are going North.
