In celebration of the 30th anniversary of The Simpson, Fox has announced their intent to gift Simpsons die-hards with a gift of their own, revealing that the network will air an encore of the first-ever full-length episode of the series: "Simspons Roasting on an Open Fire."
The episode orignally aired on December 17th in 1989 and will once again grace small screens on December 23rd, at 8 p.m. EST. This season's holiday episode comes on tonight (Sunday) at 8 p.m. EST, and will feature guest star Jane Lynch.
The writer of the pilot, Mimi Pond, revelaed last year that while she was repsonsible for the sereis' pilot, she was never extended a position on the writing staff, revealing that she found out that the showrunner, Sam Simon, did not want any women on staff because he was going through a divorce at the time.
“It had remained a boys’ club for a good long time," she told Vulture. "I feel like I was just as qualified as anyone else who came along and got hired on the show, and it was just because I was a woman that I was, you know, not allowed entry into that club. I always wind up being the turd in the punchbowl because the show is so beloved and everything, and I’m sorry to burst bubbles but [laughs]. It wasn’t a pleasant experience for me.”
