The most anticipated game of the NFL season thus far, featuring the 9-1 Kansas City Chiefs and the 9-1 Los Angeles Rams, is slated to take place on Monday night in Week 11 from Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. However, the field conditions have become a major concern following a concert that recently took place at the stadium.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the league is discussing whether or not it's safe to play the game in Mexico City, or if it's best to postpone it altogether. Additionally, Schefter reports the game might end up being played at LA Memorial Coliseum because Azteca Stadium is "a mess" right now.
"NFL officials are expected to convene at the stadium Tuesday in a meeting that was previously scheduled to examine the playing surface and make a final decision about whether the game can and will be played there, sources said. If it is not, the game would be moved to Los Angeles."
It's worth noting, both the Chiefs and Rams have a bye week in Week 12 which gives the NFL a little wiggle room if they insist on playing the game in Mexico City in Week 12 instead.
Entering Week 11, the Chiefs and Rams rank as two of the most explosive offenses, with Kansas City averaging 35.3 points per game and L.A. averaging 33.5. The New Orleans Saints are the only team to score more on a weekly basis. On top of that, the Rams and Chiefs rank second and third, respectively, in yards per game trailing only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
