A new movie that will recount the life story of Amy Winehouse is in the works. This will differ from the two other productions about the icon that have already been completed. The next title will be a full-blown biopic, offering fans insight into their idol's personal experience.
Amy's father, Mitch Winehouse, explained the production's intent. They are aiming to portray the songstress as accurately as possible by casting a regular young lady to play the complex role.
"What we want is somebody to portray Amy in the way that she was… the funny, brilliant, charming and horrible person that she was. I wouldn’t mind betting it would be an unknown, young, English – London, Cockney – actress who looks a bit like Amy."
Although they've been "approached many times" about the role, Mitch insists that Lady Gaga is not being considered for the lead.
"It wouldn’t be Lady Gaga. She doesn’t speak our kind of English."
The "right people" need to be enlisted for the project. So far, the movie is said to be directed by Alison Owen and penned by Kinky Boots writer Geoff Deane.
This news comes days after the Winehouse family announced their daughter would be performing as a hologram for their charity. The artist's simulation will be backed by a live band during a concert benefitting the Amy Winehouse Foundation, an organization that supports youth struggling with alcohol and drug abuse.
