Blaze Foley's legend comes to life in this biopic.

Blaze Foley was an infamous country singer and songwriter in the 70's and 80's. Raised in Texas, Foley met Sybil Rosen in the mid-70's, and the two ran away together and began a relationship. Foley confided his dreams of becoming a famous musician to Rosen, who supported his mission. The two would tour the south for years until Foley's alcoholism derailed both his love life and his career. He was murdered in 1989.

Actor Ethan Hawke ventured into the world of directing, and is set to bring the story of Foley to the big screen in a new biopic called Blaze. In the first trailer for the film, Foley meets Rosen and tells her, "I don't want to be a star, I wants to be a legend." Relative newcomer Ben Dickey stars as Foley, while Alia Shawkat plays Rosen. The highs and lows of their tumultuous relationship are on full display in the first trailer for the film, with Foley's alcoholism playing the main villain. In one scene, Rosen walks into the bathroom to find Foley slouched in the bathtub, surrounded by song lyrics on the walls. "I wrote you a song," he drunkenly mumbles. "I think my days of being your muse are over," she admits.

Blaze hits theaters on September 7th.
