Kim Kardashian West has spent been directing a considerable amount of effort in a cause that she has proven to be passionate about: prison reform. Earlier this year, the model and mother of three took to the task of advocating on behalf of Alice Marie Johnson, a woman who had served 21 years of a life sentence received after a conviction for a first-time nonviolent drug offense. Johnson was subsequently granted clemency and released from prison. Kim's recent efforts have however proven to be unpopular with San Bernardino County D.A., Mike Ramos.
Ramos spoke to TMZ about a recent tweet by the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star which saw her advocating on behalf of a death row inmate named Kevin Cooper. Cooper was found guilty of 4 murders in 1983, crimes he maintains that he did not commit and faces the death penalty. The tweet urged California Governor Jerry Brown to request advanced DNA testing that could settle the case.
Ramos revealed that he found Kim's efforts misguided, and inconsiderate telling TMZ, "It’s time that we start talking and 'tweeting' about the victims who were brutally murdered in the sanctity of their home." Ramos added, "This latest attempt to free Kevin Cooper is nothing more than a red herring and another slap in the face of the victims and their family members who were forced to suffer a lifetime of pain."
TMZ previously reported that Brown did not respond to Kim's request.
